Christina Spaulding has been a deputy with California's Office of the State Public Defender, representing death-sentenced clients on direct appeal, for nearly ten years.Before that, she worked for ten years at the Miami Public Defender's Office, also representing capital clients on direct appeal, assisting trial attorneys in the Capital Litigation Unit, and working with the Florida Public Defenders' Association to coordinate state-wide litigation strategy and legislative positions concerning the death penalty and other criminal justice issues. Her cases include Ramirez v. State, 810 So.2d 836 (Fla. 2001), a successful challenge to knife-mark identification evidence as junk forensic science.

Ms. Spaulding worked on her first capital case, pro bono, while an associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, DC.Before that, she clerked for Judge Carolyn Dineen King of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in Houston.
