After finishing law school, Jan Vetter worked for Gibson Dunn & Crutcher in Los Angeles. In 1967 he joined the Berkeley Law faculty. He served as associate dean from 2000 to 2003. A specialist in civil litigation, he has been a visiting professor at Harvard University.
In 1995 Vetter received the Rutter Award for Teaching Distinction.
