Maiya Zwerling is a clinical supervisor at the Policy Advocacy Clinic at Berkeley Law, where she’s primarily focused on abolishing monetary sanctions in the juvenile and criminal legal systems. She works with community and advocacy organizations on the ground to pass legislation in the western and southern regions of the United States. Additionally, she has played a key role in developing and launching Debt Free Justice, a national campaign to end youth fees and fines.
As a lobbyist, campaigner, and grassroots organizer, Maiya has led federal, state, and local campaigns focused on economic and racial justice and U.S. militarism. Maiya earned a master of public policy degree from U.C. Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy and completed her undergraduate studies at Bryn Mawr College.
