Maiya Zwerling is a clinical supervisor at the Policy Advocacy Clinic at Berkeley Law, where she supports community-led research and advocacy in the western and southern United States that challenges the harms of the criminal legal system and the consequences of disinvestment in social safety net programs.
Maiya played a foundational role in developing and launching Debt Free Justice, a national campaign to abolish fees and fines imposed on youth in the legal system.
With a background as a lobbyist, campaign strategist, and organizer, she has led local, state, and federal campaigns addressing racial and economic injustices, as well as U.S. militarism. Maiya holds a Master of Public Policy from UC Berkeley’s Goldman School of Public Policy and a bachelor’s degree from Bryn Mawr College.
