Berkeley Law Alternative Service Trips or BLAST (formerly Boalt on Break) is one way students at Berkeley Law can engage in pro bono legal services. BLAST allows students to take a short, but deep dive serving clients over school breaks outside of the Bay Area. Students work alongside established grassroots legal services agencies, gaining insight into the ways these organizations adapt their work to the unique challenges and needs of their respective communities. BLAST is a service-learning experience that helps equip students with the tools to understand the complex needs of communities similar to and different from their own, helping foster an active generation of thoughtful community lawyers. Last year, BLAST traveled to rural Kentucky. In Spring 2019 BLAST will be heading off to five locations across the country. BLAST, like SLPS, is student-initiated and operates in conjunction with the Berkeley Law Pro Bono Program.
Applications for BLAST are due September 4, 2018.
