LL.M. Tuition & Fees

The Executive Track Remote + Summer timeline consists of two semesters online and one summer in-residence.

The tuition fee total for the LL.M. executive track remote + summer timeline equals the prior academic year’s tuition fees. 25% of fees will be billed for the spring term, 50% for the summer term, and 25% for the fall term.

You can follow the instructions below to make a payment online. There are options to make a tuition payment from U.S. and non-U.S. bank accounts. Some methods may require an additional fee. For full details please visit the Payments & Refunds web page.

The Fee Payment Plan (FPP) allows for qualified registration fees to be paid in five monthly installments. The FPP enrollment is established on a per-semester basis, not an academic year. When you enroll in the FPP, you will be required to pay a non-refundable participation fee of $60 (this fee is subject to change per semester). The non-refundable FPP participation fee will be due with the first installment. A third-party organization may sponsor a student’s enrollment by committing to paying a student’s mandatory tuition and registration fees. Most organizations will grant sponsorships through an application process. Once the student recipients are identified, the organization will send the funds to the school along with award processing instructions.

If the organization requires that they be invoiced directly before issuing payment, the student may request that the campus accept a Third Party Contract. The Billing and Payment Services Office (BPS) coordinates Third Party Contracts (TPC).

Learn about payment options here. A Fee Payment Plan is available for the fall and spring semesters.  The Fee Payment Plan is not available during the summer semester.

Spring fees are due in mid-January, summer fees in mid-May, and fall fees in mid-August.

“Tuition” at Berkeley Law is a combination of a number of campus and program fees. The LL.M. Program Fee represents the largest portion of total fees students pay.

Other fees that will be billed to LL.M. students include, but are not limited to:

• Berkeley Campus Fee
• Class Pass Fee
• Document Management Fee (billed in the first semester only)
• UCGPC Fee (students may opt-out)

The sum of all billed tuition fees (excluding SHIP) will equal the amount of Tuition and Fees listed in the COA estimates above.

If you have comparable insurance, you may request to waive enrollment. Go to the University Health Services website for more information. If you qualify and waive SHIP enrollment, these fees will NOT be included in your billed expenses. However, the estimated expenses will still be included in your estimated Cost of Attendance.

The Berkeley Law LL.M. program does not distinguish between in or out-of-state fees; there are no discounts for California residents.

Yes, tuition and fees typically increase by 3-5% each year.  Tuition and fees are typically finalized in July each year.

The Easy Pass (Class Pass) provides unlimited rides on AC Transit buses and Bear Transit Shuttle throughout the semester (except Bear Transit RFS line which requires an additional fee).

Transportation costs vary widely; many Berkeley students walk, bike, or take public transit to lower their costs. Most students get around just fine without a car.

The cost of attendance includes estimated living expenses that can be used by students that are funding their education with a third party (sponsorship, loan, etc.). The Cost of Attendance budget allows for students to inform the third party to fully fund their education at Berkeley Law.

Students have the option to request an increase in their estimated budget if their actual expenses exceed the provided estimates. This adjustment allows access to additional federal student loans for those who qualify. For more details, please visit the Cost of Attendance Adjustment page.

We are required to post estimated living expenses for all semesters of a program that we offer. As our Executive Track Remote + Summer students complete the Spring and Fall semesters remotely, the living expenses may not apply to them as they will be completing their courses at home. 

There are also students that are choosing to complete the remote semesters in Berkeley and need to request a third party to fund their education. They may opt to use the estimated living expenses to inform the third party on how much financial support they need. Please refer to the question above on how the Cost of Attendance can be used for this purpose.

All registered students* at the University of California are required to meet the university’s health insurance mandate. Students are automatically enrolled in the Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) to meet this mandate.

If students have comparable insurance outside of UC Berkeley and don’t want to keep SHIP as dual coverage, they may submit a waiver application. Please note that all students can use University Health Services (UHS), whether or not they have SHIP.
