Laura Bixby serves as a staff attorney and clinical supervisor in EBCLC’s Housing Practice. Prior to joining EBCLC, Laura worked as a public defender in the Special Litigation Unit at Orleans Public Defenders in New Orleans. In addition to representing clients charged with serious felonies from arrest through jury trial, Laura developed a strategy to challenge New Orleans’ network of real-time-monitored surveillance cameras and served as the named plaintiff in a public records lawsuit brought by the ACLU and SPLC. Laura also successfully argued a case at the Louisiana Supreme Court that struck down a law criminalizing selling art outdoors as violating the First Amendment. In law school, Laura worked at the Federal Defenders of Arizona and the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, and also spent two semesters at Stanford’s Community Law Clinic doing eviction defense, expungement, and disability benefits work.
