Asher Waite-Jones (’16) joined the faculty of the First Year Skills program in 2026, after a decade of practice as a public interest lawyer and clinical teacher.
Prior to joining the Legal Research, Analysis, & Writing Program, Waite-Jones spent two years as a Clinical Supervisor at UC Berkeley Law’s Policy Advocacy Clinic (PAC). At PAC, he supervised interdisciplinary teams of law and public policy students in the pursuit of non-litigation strategies to address systemic racial, economic, and social injustice.
Before coming to Berkeley Law, Waite-Jones spent eight years as a legal aid attorney in California and Indiana. As a legal aid lawyer, he provided direct representation to youth and adults in multiple states in cases related to the consequences of racialized mass incarceration, including criminalization of homelessness, fines and fees, drivers-license revocation, and vehicle tows.
Prior to law school, Waite-Jones worked as a paralegal for the Western District Office of the Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project, assisting attorneys in investigating, filing, and litigating lawsuits on behalf of incarcerated people against prisons and jails across Western Pennsylvania. He speaks Yiddish.
