Overview:
The Wheeler Institute for Water Law & Policy is seeking to hire a Research Fellow.
The Wheeler Institute is a research and policy center within the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment (CLEE) at the UC Berkeley School of Law. The UC Berkeley Law School benefits from one of the finest environmental law programs in the nation, and the Wheeler Institute leverages the intellectual resources of the Berkeley Law faculty and students in furtherance of applied scholarship in a variety of environmental and energy law and policy areas. CLEE’s research priorities include climate change, environmental governance questions, disaster law, water allocation and governance questions, and alternative energy strategies.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Fellow’s primary responsibilities will include:
- Working with Berkeley Law faculty and staff, and with collaborators at other institutions, to develop research topics in water resources, with a focus on California issues;
- Researching and writing white papers of publishable quality for policy-focused audiences, under the direction of faculty and staff;
- Possible interdisciplinary collaboration on complex issues at the intersection of emerging science and policy;
- Assisting Center staff in organizing and running one or more workshops with California water leaders, policymakers and academics;
- Speaking at workshops, to the academic community and the press about research initiatives;
- Assisting with other necessary aspects of workshop and report production.
Qualifications:
- A JD or equivalent is required, and experience in water law, science, or policy is preferred;Excellent research, analytical and writing skills;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Organizational skills;Self-starter able to prioritize and function both independently and collaboratively;
- Willingness to travel occasionally within California.
- The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge at the intersection of law,science, and policy and the ability to work with people from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and policy perspectives
