ELECTRIC VEHICLE: HOW HAWAI’I PARADISE CAN LEAD THE WORLD IN DEPLOYMENT

September 2013

The Maui Electric Vehicle Alliance (Maui EVA), funded by the Department of Energy Clean Cities EV Community Readiness Grant and associated cost-share partners
and based at the University of Hawai’i Maui College, met with electric vehicle stakeholders in February and March 2013 on Moloka’i, Hawai’i Island, O’ahu, and Kaua’i,
along with the Center for Law, Energy and the Environment at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. After sharing research findings and learning about
the challenges to electric vehicle deployment on the neighbor islands, the authors decided to capture the discussions in this policy report. All conclusions and recommendations are solely the authors’ and do not necessarily reflect the views of those individuals interviewed.
