We are hiring 1Ls for our Diversity Scholarship Program and Tax group for our Mountain View office. 1L Diversity Scholarship: Fenwick & West will offer up to five diversity scholarships for 1L students who identify with historically underrepresented group(s) in the legal profession, specifically African Americans, Hispanic/Latinx, LGBTQ community, Pacific Islanders/Native Hawaiian or Native Americans/Native Alaskans. The recipient(s) of the 1L Diversity Scholarship will be required to spend a minimum of 8 weeks of their summer following their 1L year working as a Fenwick Summer Associate. At the end of the summer, each recipient will be eligible for a returning summer associate offer (following their 2L year), contingent upon customary work evaluations and performance feedback from the Firm. 2021 1L Tax Summer Associate: Fenwick is looking for a 1L who is interested in a career in tax law to join our Tax group for our 2021 summer program. Fenwick has one of the nation’s leading domestic and international tax practices. The tax group’s sophisticated practice serves a diverse client base ranging from Fortune 500 companies to emerging technology startups, based all over the United States and around the world.

The Finnegan/Corporate 1L Diversity Summer Associate Partnership provides a unique opportunity for 1L law students to gain exposure to law firm practice and corporate legal departments. The position includes a paid 2021 1L Summer Associate Position in our Atlanta, Boston, Palo Alto, or Washington, DC offices and a corporate internship with one of our clients. Students would spend the first six weeks of our summer at Finnegan, and the next four weeks at the corporate site. We are seeking students who have a demonstrated a commitment to pursuing a career in IP law and enhancing diversity in the legal profession. Students must have at least an undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, engineering (biomedical, electrical, mechanical), computer science, or physics, and be patent bar eligible. Knobbe Martens is looking for students with hard science or engineering degrees. Those with physics, biology or chemistry type degrees should have a PhD. In particular, we are looking for students with computer science and electrical engineering degrees as well as students interested in the biotechnology and chemistry space with PhDs. Students with other technical or science degrees will be considered. We also have limited spots available for students interested in trademark prosecution and branding. We are not looking for non-technical litigators. Students interested in trademark prosecution should have a documented or demonstrated interest in trademarks and branding. In addition to our general summer associate program hiring, Paul Hastings is also actively recruiting students interested in IP Litigation in our New York, Palo Alto, and Washington, D.C. offices. Our IP Incentive Bonus is available to incoming associates with the requisite undergraduate or graduate science background/degree(s) who receives and accepts a full-time associate offer following participation in the PH summer associate program. A bonus of $10,000 is paid after joining the firm as an associate. IP candidates should meet the hiring criteria for the office in which they are interested.

  • New York – Seeking candidates with an undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in either the life or physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, biochemistry, engineering or similar). Students with outstanding academic credentials, superior writing skills and scientific or engineering degree or demonstrated competency are preferred.
  • Palo Alto – Seeking candidates with a demonstrated interest in litigation and intellectual property. Fellowship description: As a 1L Intellectual Property Litigation Fellow, you will participate in our Summer Program in our Boston, New York or Silicon Valley office. You will participate in all aspects of the Summer Program, including our training sessions, the US Summer Associate Conference in New York, ongoing mentorship opportunities, networking with our lawyers and social events. You will gain valuable insight into what we do and what it means to practice IP Litigation at the Firm. We know that timely and meaningful feedback is important to your professional growth, and you will receive feedback regarding your work over the course of the summer.
