Mark S. Siegel ’76 has been elected to serve a four-year term as chair of the J. Paul Getty Trust Board of Trustees, effective July 1. The Getty Trust, one of the world’s largest supporters of arts, is an international cultural and philanthropic institution that includes the Getty Center in Los Angeles and Getty Villa in Malibu as well as a research institute, conservation institute, and grant-giving foundation.
Siegel joined the trust’s board in November 2005, and currently chairs its investment committee. He also serves on the board’s governance and compensation committees, and on the museum’s conservation and villa councils.
The founder and president of Remy Investors and Consultants, Siegel chairs the board of directors of Patterson-UTI Energy, an energy services company, and is in his final year as chair of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s board of directors. He previously worked as executive vice president at Shamrock Holdings, Inc., an investment firm, and practiced law for 12 years in the entertainment and media industries.
Siegel, who collects contemporary and 19th century paintings and manuscripts, has served on the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts and as a trustee of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
“As an art-lover, I can think of no better opportunity,” Siegel says of his new post. “We are fortunate to have in our community one of the finest arts institutions in the world, which does so much in so many areas.”
