An environmental advocacy group is suing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Navy for “egregious violations” during its cleanup of radioactive toxins at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard. San Francisco-based Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice and the UC Berkeley Law Clinic filed the lawsuit Friday, calling for, among other demands, 100% of the land to be retested for radioactive contaminants. Representatives from Greenaction for Health and Environmental Justice have told the Chronicle that the group plans to file a lawsuit in federal court on Friday naming the U.S. Navy, which is responsible for cleaning the roughly 500-acre shipyard on the city’s southeastern waterfront in preparation for its planned redevelopment, and the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA, which oversees the effort, San Francisco Chronicle, 6/28/24
