ABA Entities

The ABA is composed of over 2,200 individual entities. This portion of the ABA website has links to many of its sub-parts, some of which list job opportunities.

ABA Law Student Division

Lists links to other job opportunities sites including the Central and East European Law Initiative (CEELI) Internship Program, and a list of legal and professional job sites.

ABA Human Resources

Lists opportunities within the ABA, its sections, divisions, commissions and so forth. Opportunities are available for degreed, non-degreed, and law professionals. Some of the careers that are available at the ABA are communication, administration, technical services, marketing, meeting planning, and association management.

Environmental Justice Resource Center (EJRC) at Clark Atlanta University

Contains resources on issues of environmental justice and racism.  Includes on-line updates of their Directory of People of Color Environmental Groups.

Equal Justice Works

This site is mainly informational and provides information about the annual Equal Justice Works Career Fair in Washington D.C. held in the fall, links to other public interest sites, organizations and listings, and information about EJW’s public interest legal fellowships program.

Essential/Goodworks

This provides information from around the country and may be useful for students looking for summer internship opportunities in law or policy.

Fastweb.com

A database of over 180,000 listings for scholarships, fellowships, grants and loans.

Idealist.org

Offers a directory of nonprofit and volunteer resources on the Web with information provided by 20,000 organizations in 150 countries. A powerful feature of this site is the Job Alert, through which nonprofit job seekers receive a daily e-mail message with links to new job openings added to the Idealist in the previous 24 hours.  This site is not focused on opportunities exclusively for lawyers or law students, but there are lots of listings that could use someone with a legal education.

International Monetary Fund (IMF)

Website for the IMF also contains a recruitment section that lists vacancies and procedures for submitting applications.  Subsections include a list of current issues and a network/contacts list.

The National Legal Aid and Defenders Association

The NLADA is the national trade organization of legal aid and defender programs, as well as individual equal justice advocates. The “Jobs” area of the NLADA web site includes positions in civil legal services, defender organizations, pro bono and public interest organizations, public interest law firms and academia.

Nonprofit Jobs

Job postings from nonprofit organizations which are searchable by region, state, name of employer, salary, and type of work.  Generally non-legal jobs.

Oneworld

A list of organizations (non-profits/NGOs) doing work in a variety of areas.  Some have internship programs which accept law students.

Opportunity Knocks

A national jobs database that includes many Bay Area listings for positions of all kinds (not just law) in the not-for-profit sector.

Organization of American States (OAS)

This website contains information about OAS, including directories of members, publications and videos, employment and internship opportunities, and current and past press releases.

PSLawNet

PSLawNet is a national database with over 8,000 year-round volunteer opportunities throughout the United States for law students (1,2, and 3L’s) and alumni.  Most of the positions are with legal services offices, nonprofit organizations or government agencies. This database also includes post-graduate fellowships and some paid positions for alumni. Individuals can search based on the type of work they prefer, issue area, type of organization and location (city, state or county).  

Pro Bono Opportunities

Probono.Net/SF lists all the practice areas covered on the site. The main page of the San Francisco site includes a calendar of training and other pro bono-related events, news and practice areas. The new website is being hosted by VLSP with the help of Probono.net, a national non-profit organization based in New York.

San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association

A professional association serving the plaintiff’s bar in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Many members are attorneys at small & medium-sized firms with public interest practice areas.  Join their free listserv to receive job announcements from other members, many of which are not published elsewhere.

Soros Foundation Network

This site has a wealth of information on George Soros’ grantmaking in the U.S. and abroad.  Access The Center on Crime, Communities and Culture of the Open Society Institute which describes how to apply for their Fellowships in Criminal Justice, and has links to other criminal justice sites.

United Nations

Central website for the UN with links to its committees and subcommittees around the world. Gives general information about the UN including upcoming events/conferences, publications, employment opportunities, news about member states, current issues and news as well as the texts of UN documents.

World Bank

Website for the World Bank contains news, publications, developments, and employment opportunities.

World Trade Organization (WTO)

Homepage for the WTO with a listing of current vacancies and recent news.  Also has sections for particular trade topics such as Intellectual Property, the Environment, etc
