Richard Dinkelspiel ’37, a Bay Area native and accomplished corporate lawyer, died at age 91 on Friday, January 14, at Marin General Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Oakland , Dinkelspiel was a graduate of UC Berkeley as well as Boalt Hall. He was a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Dinkelspiel served as president of the San Francisco Bar Association in the 1960s, helping to organize the San Francisco Lawyers Committee for Urban Affairs to provide free legal services for the poor. In 1974 he was elected to the board of governors of the State Bar of California, and in 1981 became president of the Commonwealth Club of San Francisco.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Miriam, and by his five children: Susan Cerny, Anne Howd, Robin Miller, Richard Dinkelspiel Jr. and Joan Dinkelspiel.
