Professor Emeritus Joseph L. Sax, House & Hurd Professor of Environmental Regulation, accepted the prestigious Blue Planet Prize on October 17 in Tokyo. Two such prizes are awarded each year for outstanding achievements in scientific research and application that help solve global environmental problems.
Sax and co-honoree Dr. Amory B. Lovins, chairman and chief scientist at the Rocky Mountain Institute in Snowmass, Colorado, each received a certificate of merit, a commemorative trophy, and 50 million yen (approximately $428,000). The Blue Planet Prize was established by the Asahi Glass Foundation in 1992 to help fund scientific endeavors and raise environmental awareness around the world.
