U.S. immigration lawyer and expert Ira Kurzban ’76 presented the Ruth Chance Lecture, “Immigration and Democracy,” at Boalt Hall on Monday, October 31. The one-hour lecture, sponsored by the Center for Social Justice, was followed later in the afternoon by a reception and panel discussion between Kurzban, Maria Echaveste ’80 and Lucas Guttentag. Widely recognized for his work in immigration and employment law, Kurzban authored the definitive text Kurzban’s Immigration Law Sourcebook. A past-national president and former general counsel of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, he has litigated federal cases concerning the rights of aliens, including arguments before the Supreme Court.
