Frank Hespe ’88 has accepted a special yearlong assignment in the former Soviet republic of Tajikistan to promote the rule of law on behalf of the American Bar Association. Hespe, who has served as dean of the Monterey College of Law since 2002, describes his volunteer venture in a July 4 article in the Monterey County Herald. One of the poorest countries in central Asia, Tajikistan is north of Afghanistan and west of China, and is home to about 7 million people. Hespe will develop a human rights curriculum and training program for Tajik students to implement in local communities. His project also encompasses developing legal clinics in the country.
