An ambitious free multimedia Digital Public Library of America is in prototype and will be “up and running in April 2013” in its first phase online, said Robert Darnton, the Harvard University librarian. The goal is to “link up collections from great research universities in this country and set up a system that is user-friendly,” he said Friday at a symposium of the University of California-Berkeley’s law school.
