New report from Berkeley Law students and Lecturer Rose Carmen Goldberg who overseas the Veterans Practicum, looks at the struggles deported veterans face when trying to access benefits they are entitled to.

According to Rose Carmen Goldberg, lecturer at UC Berkeley School of Law and director of the VLP, the report is a testament to a great irony: Veterans, who served in the U.S. military, can be deported. After being deported, veterans have a more difficult time accessing the health and service benefits they’re entitled to.  

Deported veterans face significant barriers accessing a variety of veteran-centric services, including health care benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, according to a study by the University of California-Berkeley School of Law.

Laura Riley, director of the Clinical Program at UC Berkeley School of Law and the author of “Homless Advocacy,” joins host Krystal Norton to discuss the stigma faced by unhoused people in the United States, the history of homelessness within the country, how being an effective advocate means competently and compassionately working with people experiencing homelessness, and models for homeless advocacy.

Berkeley Law’s Criminal Law and Justice Center, or CLJC, held its inaugural event Tuesday, hosting UC Santa Cruz professor Angela Davis in conversation with Chesa Boudin, the center’s executive director.

Author Tony Platt worked with Berkeley Law professors Nazune Menka and Seth Davis, and students from Menka’s “Decolonizing UC Berkeley” class, and many other on his book “The Scandal of Cal: Land Grabs, White Supremacy and Miseducation at UC Berkeley.” 

“I read the America First message as their trying to pressure law schools to read the decision very broadly and to curtail efforts to pursue diversity in all areas,” said Dean Chemerinsky.
