Gideon Aran, Professor Emeritus of Sociology & Anthropology, Hebrew University
In this talk, Professor Gideon Aran will discuss his research and findings from a field study conducted during the Second Intifada on Haredi rituals at sites of terrorism in Jerusalem. Professor Eran is an expert in the field of religious extremism, having extensively researched terrorism in both Jewish settler and Palestinian communities.
Gideon Aran is a professor (emeritus) of Sociology & Anthropology at The Hebrew University, Jerusalem. The fields of his academic specialty are Jewish radicalism, Israeli mythology, religious and political violence, and ethnography. He is author of Kookism: The Hard Core of Gush Emunim. His most recently published books are The Smile of the Human Bomb: New Perspectives on Suicide Terrorism and The Cult of Dismembered Limbs: Jewish Death Rites at the Scene of Palestinian Terrorism.
