Lessons from Syrian Opposition Negotiators for Ukraine (Virtual Event)

Betsy Popken, Executive Director of UC Berkeley’s Human Rights Center, will moderate an online conversation on lessons learned first-hand from Syrian Opposition negotiators that may be applied to future negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Popken will be joined by three impactful Syrian negotiators, Hind Kabawat, Hosam Hafez, and Noura Aljizawi, who sat opposite the regime of Bashar al-Assad in negotiations mediated by the United Nations to end the war in Syria.  Mark Ward, former Director of the U.S. State Department’s Syria Transition Assistance and Response Team, will give introductory remarks and help close the discussion.
