This course covers financial statement basics, with the objective to learn to read, understand and analyze balance sheets, income statements, statements of cash flows, and notes to financial statements, along with how these statements give you insight into business performance. The course will cover key accounting concepts including generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the accounting cycle, debits/credits, and journal entries. Additional topics will include learning how to prepare and read a capitalization table, understanding pre-money vs post-money, ownership, and equity valuations. Discussions on current financial trends in Venture Capital and in tech companies will also be incorporated.
This course will have 7 class meetings. To allow for a makeup class because of unforeseen circumstances this course has an automatic make-up class scheduled for the 8th week. Students must be able to attend all 8 scheduled meetings to earn credit.
Sue Biglieri is the current CFO/COO at Kleiner Perkins, having spent the past 30 years as both the Controller and CFO at the firm. She has also spent time in industry and as an auditor at EY. She is a graduate of the Berkeley School of Business (Haas) and is a CPA (retired).
