The course will cover the legal principles governing the employer-employee relationship as they are found in the common law, in federal and state constitutions, statutes, and administrative regulations. Laws governing unionized employees will be touched on but not explored in depth and are the subject of a separate course entitled Labor Law. Rather, this course will focus on employee and employer rights under contract, tort and constitutional law principles, as well as under regulatory schemes such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (and analogous state laws), privacy laws, and discrimination laws.
