Friday, June 23, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Event Navigation
Join us for a powerful poetry reading in celebration of Juneteenth by poet, vocalist, and activist Dr. Gina Loring. Exploring themes of cultural identity and inherited histories, Dr. Loring uses poetry and prose to give these issues a voice with both conviction and levity. Described by V (formerly Eve Ensler, creator of The Vagina Monologues) as “one of the best poets of her generation,” Dr. Loring is a dynamic performer who has been commissioned to write poems for Greenpeace, Mickalene Thomas and Quincy Jones. Expect to be moved, touched and inspired!
This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Race and Gender, the African American Studies Department, the Gender & Women’s Studies Department, and Berkeley’s Black Staff and Faculty Organization.
