Clinic Director Deirdre Mulligan and Joseph Lorenzo Hall co-authored Preliminary Analysis of E-Voting Problems Highlights Need for Heightened Standards and Testing. The paper discusses how electronic voting machines, such as the Direct Recording Electronic voting machine, have been under scrutiny due to numerous failings as well as security and privacy concerns. The paper analyzes the current standards for voting machines, certification procedures, and the technology failures during the 2004 general election. Current voting systems are inadequate and fully certified systems have failures that must be corrected.
