Can I observe a class in session?

Yes. Go to the Schedule of Classes on our website and browse for a class that interests you. Please arrive early and introduce yourself to our faculty.

Will the law school host a visit day/weekend?

The School again will host its annual, weekend-long program for new admits this year.  We are planning many activities, including an opportunity to sit-in on an actual class and tour the campus. You will have lunch with faculty and current students and attend presentations by the Office of Career Development, Financial Aid Office and clinical programs. Please check out the Admitted Students Weekend website for more information.

I am visiting from out of town. Is there a list of accommodations available?

How can I get in touch with law students or organizations that are interested in a particular area ?

When will I receive financial aid information?

Please refer to the initial financial aid information mailed to you in your admit packet. General financial aid information can be found in the Financial Support section of the Admitted Student Website. For more detailed information, please visit the Financial Aid website.

When is tuition due?

In order to be registered as a student for the fall semester, please have your fees paid in full or meet the requirement of the Deferred Payment Plan by August 15. For more information, refer to the Entering Student Registration & Financial Aid Info page.

Where can I get information about health insurance?

We have included a section about healthcare in the Student Life section of this guide.

When do classes start?

Classes are scheduled to start on August 24. Orientation for admitted students will be from August 20-21. Please check our Academic Calendar for updates.

When will we get our class schedules and section assignments?

Class schedules and section assignments will be available during the first day of orientation.

How are first-year sections assigned? How many sections are there?

Students will be randomly assigned by computer to one of nine modules. Each module is typically composed of about 30 students.

When can I buy my books?

You may buy your books at the Law School Bookstore during orientation.

Will there be homework assignments for the first day of classes?

There may be homework assignments for the first day of classes. Assignments will be posted on bCourses which is the campus course website system.

When can I get my Cal Photo ID card?

Please check the Orientation section of the Admitted Student Website during the summer for information about obtaining your Cal Photo ID card.

How do I apply for housing?

How can I defer my admission to next year?

You must request a deferment in writing as soon as possible before June 1. Send the request to the Dean of Admissions at admits@law.berkeley.edu. Deferments are granted on a case-by-case basis.
