This course involves the legal, practical, and commercial aspects of land transfer from both transactional and a litigation perspectives. The course material carries the introductory real property course to its next step and considers, in the land transfer context, matters such as brokers and agency, land contracts, options, commercial leases, escrows, deeds, priority issues, recording, title insurance, and an introduction to secured real estate financing (mortgages). It is not necessary to take Real Estate Transactions II (real estate secured transactions) to benefit from, and to obtain credit for, Real Estate Transactions I, although students interested in business, banking, commercial, or real estate law are encouraged to take both courses.
