Much of U.S. law is made by administrative agencies, acting pursuant to statutory authority, subject to oversight by courts. This basic course concentrates on the fundamental legal principles surrounding federal administrative agencies, including: the structural separation-of-powers requirements of the Constitution; legislative, executive and judicial control of administrative action; the exercise of administrative power; and structures of bureaucratic decisionmaking. Examples are drawn from a variety of substantive areas, from environmental protection to securities regulation.
