This LLM-only course covers the topic of jurisdiction and the main stages of civil litigation in the trial court, including pleading, discovery, summary judgment, right to jury trial, motions for judgment as a matter of law, joinder of parties and claims, and claim and issue preclusion. This course is appropriate for students who want to increase their knowledge about how U.S. attorneys actually bring or defend a civil lawsuit in the United States. It will be particularly helpful to LLM students who plan to (1) take a U.S. bar examination, (2) practice in the U.S., or (3) work with U.S. attorneys in litigation.
