This course will examine legal issues encountered uniquely and frequently in the life science industry. Particular attention will be given to the legal and policy issues arising in connection with company formation, patents, generic drugs, and technology partnering transactions involving biotechnology and related companies. In lieu of a final exam, students will choose prepare a set of documents that would be used in the process of forming a biotechnology company. In addition, the students will "pitch" their company in the final class.

Vern Norviel is a Partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati. Vern was previously a partner at Townsend and Townsend, and an early employee of and General Counsel for Affymetrix and Perlegen.
