Elizabeth Garfinkle is a lecturer and criminal-defense appellate attorney, exclusively handling the appeals of indigent defendants in California and the Ninth Circuit. Prior to starting her own appellate practice in 2009, Ms. Garfinkle worked at the Contra Costa Alternate Defender Office, clerked for two years for the Honorable Edward C. Reed of the United States District Court for the District of Nevada, and was an associate at the law firms of Boise, Schiller, and Flexner, LLP, and, Goldstein, Demchak, Baller, and Dardarian.
While a student at Berkeley Law, Ms. Garfinkle wrote Coming of Age in America: The Misapplication of Sex-Offender Registration and Community-Notification Laws to Juveniles, 91 Cal. L. Rev. 163 (2003). She has been delighted to return part-time to Berkeley Law in 2019, first as the Interim Director of Competitions Programs, and now as a research fellow at the California Constitution Center and a legal writing lecturer in the LL.M. program.
