The Road to Marriage Equality in India

Utkarsh Saxena, who was a petitioner and lawyer in the Supreme Court marriage equality litigation in 2023, will discuss the social and legal movements leading up to the queer rights regime in India today, its colonial roots, and his firsthand experience of the oral arguments and social outreach in the marriage equality case.
 
Mr. Saxena is a lawyer and economist, practicing law at the Supreme Court of India. He has a BA/LLB from Delhi, an LLM from Harvard Law School, an MPA/ID from Harvard Kennedy School, and is completing a PhD in public policy from Oxford with a research fellowship at MIT. He previously clerked with a justice of the Supreme Court of India, worked as an economist with the Chief Economic Advisor of India and the World Bank, and as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group.
 
All students are invited. Lunch will be provided on a first-come first-serve basis.
