Our Panel: 

Hoda Katebi is an Iranian-American writer, community organizer, and lawyer. She is a national lead with Believers Bail Out, a bail fund using Zakat to bail Muslims out of pre-trial and immigration incarceration; a strategist and advisor for Dissenters, a youth-led anti-war movement with chapters across the country; and is currently building a $6M abolitionist community center–63rd House– alongside Black and brown youth in the southwest side of Chicago. Her words have appeared in the LA Times, Newsweek, Washington Post, and others, and she has appeared on Democracy Now, the New York Times, VOGUE, BBC and other media globally. Hoda graduated from Berkeley Law school in 2023. 

Adanté Pointer was born and raised in Oakland, California. As a young man, Pointer often heard about and saw a notorious band of outlaw Oakland police officers known as the “Riders” terrorize his community. He would go on to graduate from U.C. Berkeley with high academic honors and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He went on to obtain his law degree from U.C. Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Although offered other positions, Mr. Pointer turned them down and immediately began handling police brutality cases at the renowned civil rights office of John Burris. Mr. Pointer has received numerous awards and honors. He has been selected as the “Nations Best Advocate” by the National Bar Association, a “Superlawyer” in 2021 by Superlawyers Magazine and was recently featured as being “the Best Civil Rights Lawyer You May Not Have Heard Of” by the East Bay Express.

Che Hashim has represented members of diverse communities throughout Northern California since his admission to the State Bar of California in 2005. Since taking the attorney’s oath to support the Constitution of the United States and the State of California, Mr. Hashim has represented clients in all Bay Area counties, in both State and Federal courts, in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, civil rights, employment litigation, civil defense, and administrative law, and has been on the front lines of pressing issues in these evolving areas of the law, including an appellate win in the Supreme Court of California related to medical marijuana under the Compassionate Use Act and Medical Marijuana Program Act. Mr. Hashim has held law related positions with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office, the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the San Francisco 49ers, and Davez J. Scotch, LLC. Prior to earning his law degree from the University of San Francisco Mr. Hashim attended Amherst College, in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Michael Bracamontes helps individuals in landlord-tenant, employment, personal injury and civil rights matters. Mr. Bracamontes has provided trainings and/or spoke at the California Rural Legal Assistance Annual housing Seminar, Consulate General of Mexico – Labor Rights Week, UC Law SF Women’s Law Journal-Employment Discrimination, City College of San Francisco, and at the Consumer Attorneys of California annual convention. Mr. Bracamontes has served on the board of California Rural Legal Assistance and is a current board member of Consumer Attorneys of California.  Mr. Bracamontes is a contributing author to the California Eviction Defense Manual, CEB and teaches Housing Litigation & Policy at UC Berkeley Law.
