BJELL Symposium: The Current State and Future of Forced Arbitration in America

Thursday, March 21, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

BJELL Symposium Flyer

This year’s BJELL symposium, in collaboration with Berkeley’s Center for Law and Work and Center for Consumer Law and Economic Justice, will focus on forced arbitration in America. It will include a keynote address by Justice Goodwin Liu, of the California Supreme Court, along with three panel discussions, featuring some of the most impactful scholars and advocates researching, litigating, and creating policy around forced arbitration today. Speakers include individuals who have argued landmark arbitration cases at the state and national level, including recent Supreme Court cases; individuals who have shaped California policy surrounding forced arbitration in crucial, often novel ways; and individuals who played a role in recent national legislation barring forced arbitration in the context of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Whether you are new to the topic of arbitration, looking to understand the cutting edge issues that will shape its future, or hoping to get involved in advocacy around it, this symposium is the perfect opportunity to get up to speed and to meet some of the most important individuals working on arbitration today.
