This course considers the doctrines, purposes and processes of the delinquency jurisdiction of
juvenile courts. What are the differences and the similarities between juvenile and criminal courts,
sanctions, and institutions of detention and correction? To what extent do differences in purpose
justify different procedural requirements? How is the juvenile system different from the modern criminal system in the distribution of power among judges, prosecutors and probation staff? What trends are evident over the post-Gault decades? What happens next?
