Interviewed on the PBS NewsHour, Assistant Professor Goodwin Liu said the appointment of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court consolidates what had been a growing trend toward a five-justice conservative majority on the High Court. While it remains difficult to predict how the court will rule in specific cases, Liu told interviewer Ray Suarez on February 21 that the court’s “trend line” for the future appeared to support executive power. Liu, who testified at Alito’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings in January, was interviewed along with Douglas Kmiec, a Pepperdine University law professor.
