Stefanie Gitler is a partner in the Environmental Transactional Practice Group in the San Francisco office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Stefanie primarily conducts environmental due diligence for private equity and industry clients involved in complex transactions concerning the acquisition and divestiture of large businesses and companies. She negotiates contractual language in agreements, including those utilized in purchases and sales, credit transactions for obtaining loans from financing institutions, and leases for occupying real property. Stefanie counsels clients regarding regulatory compliance and exposure to environmental liabilities, including the process of obtaining environmental insurance. She assists in the retention and oversight of environmental consultants. She also researches and prepares memoranda regarding complex legal environmental matters. Stefanie also represents clients in environmental aspects of restructuring matters.
Stefanie graduated summa cum laude from the University of Virginia, receiving a B.A. in Environmental Science and Economics with a minor in Math. Stefanie received her Juris Doctorate from Berkeley Law School, where she also received the Environmental Law Certificate. During law school, she was an executive editor of the Ecology Law Quarterly.
