March 9th was a Monday. Things were already starting to feel on edge. The next day, most staff went home early to finish their workdays, and by the following Tuesday, the Law School buildings were closed until further notice.
It was a shock to our system, but we immediately rose to the occasion. Our IST staff swiftly prepped the people and systems necessary for all-remote instruction. The ADP team rapidly transitioned their programs to exclusively online. Pro Bono Office staff created a website full of pro bono opportunities for faculty and staff. Fundraisers for our fellow staff members, Berkeley Law students, and Cafe Zeb staff were met with wholehearted generosity. The Engagement Committee started up “Getting to Know You” sessions so we can learn more about the roles various departments play in making the Law School function. The list goes on.
Berkeley Law staff are truly special. We show up for each other. We are compassionate and resilient. We share resources and exchange lessons learned. We grieve, we struggle, and we organize. We are stronger together.
You are the inspiration for the activities planned for this week. They are for you and because of you, and we hope they adequately express our sincere appreciation for all you do for the Law School.
