Two things for those of you who plan on participating in EIW or FIP:
The first is about transcripts (you’ll need to order one for EIW within the next 2 weeks)
The second is about a few additional resources that can help you with creating your bid list and ranking your bids.
TRANSCRIPTS:
You’ll need to have photocopies of an original transcript for all your EIW interviews (and lots of extras for the hospitality suites). In order to get it in time, you’ll need to order your transcript online from the Registrar’s Office by Monday, July 13th, 2015. You can designate a mailing address when you order your transcript and they will send it to you, or you can pick it up in person from the Registrar’s Office.
If you are a transfer, you will use a copy of your official transcript from the school you attended during your 1L year. You will not have a Berkeley Law transcript.
Be sure to build in sufficient time to get photocopies made this before the first day of interviews. There are no photocopying facilities at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza during EIW.
Don’t put off ordering your transcript because you are concerned that the very latest changes/additions/deletions in your course enrollment do not appear on it. The key data that must be accurate for employers are your grades.
You should take full advantage of Phase II of the TeleBEARS process to complete your enrollment and insure the accuracy of all your information before placing your transcript order.
Questions about EIW? Schedule an appointment with one of the CDO Attorney-Counselors. Questions about your transcript or the ordering process? Contact the Registrar’s Office at registrar@law.berkeley.edu.
UPDATED RESOURCES:
Employer Research Reports are now posted to EIW/FIP 2015 website. They include:
a. Spreadsheet of 2015 EIW Employer Participants by Schedule (sorted alphabetically). A snapshot — as of 6-29-15 — of the EIW information contained in b-Line: interview date, employer name, number of interview slots, office locations for which the employer is interviewing, and hiring contact information. It will not include any additions/cancellations after June 29th — the b-Line itself will always be your most up-to-the-minute source of information about on-campus interviews.
b. Spreadsheet of 2015 EIW Employers By Location — break out — as of 6-29-15 — of the schedules according to the locations of the various offices for which the employers are interviewing. Unlike this static report, b-Line is continually updated and therefore ought to “govern” if you find conflicting information on this or any other of the spreadsheets.
c. Bidding, Callback, and Offer Data from OCI 2014 — information about the number of bids employers received in 2014 as well as the numbers of callbacks and offers they extended (if an employer chose to provide us with that information). Among other things, this report will give you a kind of rough proxy for firms’ relative likely “popularity” (the number of students who bid on a firm obviously has an effect on the competitiveness of bidding for interviews with that firm) and relative “selectivity” (the ratio of screening interviews to callbacks). This table also include firm summer class sizes (the entire class, not just the Berkeley Law students) for the last three years.
For more information about the bidding process and bidding strategy, consult the EIW website, specifically the EIW Mechanics webpage.
d. List of Public Interest and Public Sector Employers interviewing on-campus. As you will see when you review the list, there are some public interest/public sector employers who have accepted our invitation to participate in OCI, but many decline. We encourage you to meet with either Melanie Rowen, Alex Lee, or Eric Stern (for government) to develop a broader, but more individually tailored job search strategy for these types of positions.
e. EIW Guide — this file (which we link to via the EIW/FIP website, contains all EIW procedures, rules, and policies (which are posted online on our EIW Mechanics webpage) in a downloadable, printable, indexed pdf format.
Also, don’t forget the other useful resources on the EIW/FIP Employer Research page, including a list of where the rising 3Ls are currently working this summer.
One last thing, don’t forget the jobs section of the b-Line. Several of the firms that have decided not to come to campus this Fall have instead chosen to post job positions in the jobs section of b-Line. Announcements for such positions will continue to be posted there from now through the remainder of the year (and even beyond), so be sure to check regularly (at least weekly) for new listings.
