In this seminar, students write a substantial paper about an important new case or other development in environmental law. The instructors provide a list of significant developments from which students choose their topics. At the end of the semester, the pieces are submitted to Ecology Law Quarterly for consideration for publication in the Annual Review of Environmental and Natural Resource Law, which is published in the spring semester. Students gain highly useful experience in research, writing, and editing, with multiple opportunities for feedback from instructors and teaching assistants. Students also have the opportunity to publish an article in the nation's top environmental journal. Students whose papers are selected for publication must enroll for an additional 1 unit class, which covers the editing process, in the spring.

Prerequisites:
Students must have taken or be concurrently enrolled in Law 271, Environmental Law and Policy. Students must attend a meeting in the spring before they plan to take the course, must agree to meet all deadlines, and must participate in topic selection before the semester begins.

This course may satisfy the Writing Requirement.
