This seminar will explore interrogation practices and confession law and policy. Topics may include (among others) the psychology of police interrogation; religious confession; police training and regulation of police interrogation; the voluntariness doctrine; the history, function and future of the Miranda rule; false confessions; videotaping; and police practices in some other countries.

A paper is required. In addition to readings and class discussions, students may be asked to present their research.

Prior or concurrent enrollment Criminal Procedure—Investigations is preferred but is not required.
