This course focuses upon developing litigation skills in the context of a criminal trial. Students will prepare and present opening and closing argument, direct and cross examination, documentary and demonstrative evidence at various stages of a criminal proceeding. The format will be hands-on and participatory, and the focus will be on developing practical and dramatic techniques for shaping the evidence, using the law, and exploiting the courtroom. Regular case-based exercises will be mixed with mini-lectures, attorney demonstrations, and even movie clips. All performances will be videotaped and the course will culminate in a half-day jury trial.
