This course will examine the laws of evidence, with special attention to the Federal Rules of Evidence (FRE). Topics will include relevance, hearsay, character evidence, expert witnesses, impeachment, rehabilitation, the Confrontation Clause, and the law of privileges. The goal of the course is to give students the foundation necessary to determine whether, when, and why evidence is admissible in a trial, and to develop arguments for and against admissibility.


Professor Jacqueline E. Ross is the Prentice H. Marshall Professor of Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. She will be a Robbins Distinguished Visiting Professor at Berkeley Law in Fall 2019.
