Financial Information

The Law School Business Office provides Quarterly Reports of each Journal’s financials. These reports are based upon the University’s fiscal year, which goes from July 1 – June 30.

There are no reports provided for the 1st quarter (July – September), as, due to the summer break, there is very little activity to report.

Reports are provided approximately a month after the close of the quarter, and offer an aggregated look at each Journal’s expenditures and revenue from the beginning of the fiscal year through: December, March, June, respectively.

Along side the current fiscal year data is the information from the previous fiscal year, so that you can compare where you are this year to last year. (Unfortunately, the current format of the report does not compare similar time frames… ie. 2nd quarter numbers from the current fiscal year appear alongside ANNUAL numbers for the prior year. As we recently acquired a new CFO, the report formats will be changing). For comparison sake, last year’s financial report for the same time period is included in this packet of information, so that you can do a direct comparison.

The Quarterly Reports provided are based upon the general ledger information which I can provide as backup. The canned general ledger reports provide a line by line list of all expenditures and revenue, and can be a bit cumbersome and overwhelming to read. The Quarterly Reports group this information into a more reader friendly format, but, as they’re created from a pivot table based upon constantly updating information in the Berkeley Financial System, are not able to be saved and sent to you electronically.

I can always provide you with the detailed ledger information, for any time frame you request, but I typically only provide the detail information as a supplement to the Quarterly Reports, so you can see the detail of the aggregate expenses/ revenue.
