Lawyers and philosophers think that reasons are the essence of practical rules, especially mandatory legal ones. Yet in the Jewish tradition, in which law is a central component, thinkers and lawyers from the late Middle Ages developed the idea that the reasons for the commandments are beyond human understanding. In this workshop, Professor Yair Lorberbaum will explore this approach through the concept of Halakhic religiosity of mystery and transcendence.
Yair Lorberbaum, Professor, Faculty of Law, Bar-Ilan University; Research Fellow, Shalom Hartman Institute
