Your credit report and score can shape your life in ways you might not expect, from getting approved for an apartment to qualifying for a loan or even passing a background check. But what’s actually in your credit report, where does that information come from, and what can you do to take control of it? This session will give you a clear, hands-on understanding of how credit reporting works and the legal rights consumers have to access, correct, and protect their information. You’ll learn how to view your credit report, check it for accuracy, freeze your credit to prevent identity theft, and exercise your right to dispute inaccuracies and mistakes. We’ll also cover how to opt out of data sharing, when to be skeptical of paid “credit protection” services, and how to take simple, proactive steps to keep your credit and your personal information safe and under your control. All welcome!
This session is part of an educational series on exercising your legal rights as a consumer sponsored by the Center for Consumer Law & Economic Justice.
Lunch provided!
