Event Navigation

Don’t miss your chance to meet Julie Su, one of the most acclaimed worker rights leaders of our time! Come hear about her groundbreaking work when she was a nonprofit litigator and the top labor official in the state and nation! Nationally recognized for pioneering a multi-pronged approach combining innovative legal and policy strategies with grassroots organizing and coalition-building, Su has focused her work over the past three decades on advancing the rights of underrepresented, disenfranchised, and low-income communities that otherwise cannot afford access to the courts and have been traditionally underserved by government agencies. In her former roles as U.S. Secretary of Labor, California Secretary of Labor, and California Labor Commissioner, she was widely acclaimed for transforming federal and state enforcement of employment laws and strengthening legal protections for workers. Prior to her trailblazing work in government, Su directed and litigated successful high-profile impact suits on behalf of low-wage immigrant workers laboring in sweatshop conditions and seeking corporate accountability, and was heralded for forging a new model of movement lawyering. For her groundbreaking work and legal contributions, she has received countless honors, including the highly prestigious MacArthur “Genius Award” and the American Bar Association Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award. She has also been recognized in an official proclamation by former President Clinton as one of four “Pioneers in Women’s History,” selected as a California “Super Lawyer” multiple times, named as one of the 100 most influential people in Los Angeles by Los Angeles Magazine, featured in an exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, and extensively profiled in the media.
Lunch will be provided on a first come, first served basis. Space is limited so RSVP here.
