The Advanced Global Rights Innovation Lab Clinic (GRIL) is open to students who have previously completed the GRIL Clinic. Advanced students will work on new or continuing projects at the intersection of human rights and digital technology to generate compelling, data-driven human rights advocacy through documentation, analysis, and narratives to drive legal advocacy, policy decisions, and social change strategies. Please consult the instructor prior to enrollment regarding the number of units you will elect to earn for this course.

Admission to GRIL Advanced Clinic is by separate application through the Clinical Program portal. Students can access the Clinical Program portal when applications open via this website: https://www.law.berkeley.edu/experiential/clinics/apply-to-the-clinics/ under the section "Access the Clinical Program Application." Applications open on April 1st and are due by noon on April 8th.

Requirements Satisfaction:

When this Clinic and Seminar are taken in the same semester, they are counted together as satisfying one of the following requirements:


  • Experiential Requirement OR
  • Writing Requirement - Option 2

Together, they may satisfy either the Writing Requirement OR the Experiential Requirement, but not both. The Experiential and Writing Requirements cannot be combined.

Students who want the clinic/seminar to satisfy Option 2 of the Writing Requirement must obtain instructor approval and complete a paper or series of written work, with drafts, of 30 or more pages. To receive Option 2 credit, students must submit this form:
