Federal Courts is a course about the development of rules and principles of federal jurisdiction, judicial review, federalism, and the separation of powers. The doctrines of federal courts law not only set boundaries on judicial review and the enforcement of rights, but also shape the powers of the other branches of the federal government, as well as those of the states and Native nations. This course will place federal courts doctrines in their historical and contemporary contexts, exploring the social and political circumstances that have shaped the field. We will, in short, learn the craft and the contexts of federal courts law.
