This course explores the intersection of law and business in the important field of patent licensing. Through a blend of lectures, case studies, discussions, and practical exercises, students will learn the fundamentals of patent licensing, including business models, royalty and financial structures, license agreements, dispute resolution, and more. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate complex patent licensing transactions in today’s competitive global marketplace. Topics include: (1) Licensing Business Models; (2) The Negotiation Process; (3) Financial aspects of licensing; (3) Standards groups and patent pools; (4) License enforcement; and (5) Arbitration.
